Oiva W. Tuuri was inducted into the Army on July 24, 1943, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Gilbert, Minnesota.
Mr. Tuuri served as a Corporal and automatic rifleman with Company A of the 383rd Infantry Regiment of the 96th Infantry Division in the Southern Philippines and Ryukyu Islands (Okinawa). He was wounded in action on April 9, 1945, in the Pacific Theater.
He was awarded the following: Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars, World War II Victory Medal, and Philippine Liberation Medal with two bronze stars.
Mr. Tuuri received a disability discharge on May 28, 1947, at the Fitzsimons General Hospital in Denver, Colorado.
