Naomi Linnea Silversten entered the Army Nurse Corps through the American Red Cross on May 15, 1945.
Commissioned Second Lieutenant and served as a Registered Nurse at the O''Reilly Army General Hospital and a supervisor of the "Eye" rooms in the plastic surgery center in Springfield, Missouri.
She recalls: "Surgery technicians were the scrub nurses. We were very busy. We had a large staff in the OR. Besides plastic surgery, orthopedics and brain surgery were done."
She was awarded the following: Meritorious Unit Citation, American Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.
She was relieved from active duty on June 3, 1946, at Fort Sheridan, Illinois.
