McDONALD, Myron Mathew.
Myron Mathew McDonald was born on May 20th 1924 to Thomas Joseph & Essie [Nelson] McDonald in Duluth, Minnesota..
Mr. McDonald, of Hermantown, entered the Navy (Seabees) on June 1st 1943.
He was a Carpenter's Mate 3rd Class (CM3c) with the 117th Naval Construction Battalion and 58th Naval Construction Battalion. In the Admiralty Islands they built roads, docks and tank farms to fuel convoys to Philippines.
CM3c McDonald trained on Guadalcanal with the 6th Marine Division for the Okinawa invasion. The unit made an assault landing on Okinawa on April 1st 1945. They built airstrips for B-29s, fighter strips at Yonton and an air base for B-29s at Kadena.
After the war, he returned to the United States in November 1945 and was discharged on Dec. 17th 1945. On Aug. 28, 1948 he married Dorothy [Gabrielson] and they started a family.
Mr. McDonald died on November 21st 2011 at the age of 87 years of age. He is buried at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery in Hermantown.
