Michael R. Janashak was inducted into the Army Air Corps April 30, 1942, Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Hibbing, Minnesota.
He served as a Staff Sergeant and airplane electrical mechanic with the 501st Bomb Squadron of the Far East Air Force in the Air Offensive Japan, Western Pacific, Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea, Northern Solomon Islands,Southern Philippines (Liberation), Luzon Island, Ryukyu Islands, and China.
Mr. Janashak was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one silver and four bronze battle stars (for nine bronze stars), World War II Victory Medal and Philippine Liberation Medal with one bronze star.
He was honorably discharged October 1, 1945, Fort Lewis, Washington.
