Michael Sikich entered the Army on June 22, 1943, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Hibbing, Minnesota.
He served as a Staff Sergeant and squad leader with Company H of the Fourth Infantry Regiment at Luzon.
Mr. Sikich shared the following: "Joined the 25th Infantry Division in New Zealand in December 1943. Scheduled for the invasion of Hollandia, changed and invaded Luzon, Philippine Island, in January 1945."
He was wounded in action on the mountains of Luzon on April 3, 1945.
He was awarded the following: Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one bronze battle star, Philippine Liberation Medal with one bronze star, World War II Victory Medal, and four overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on January 10, 1946, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
