HANSON, Maynard Curtis
Maynard Curtis "Pete" Hanson was born on May 17th 1923 to Anders Hans & Othelie H [Olson] Hanson in Duluth, Minnesota..
Mr.Hanson enlisted in the Marine Corps on May 10th 1942 at Duluth, Minn.
He served as a Corporal, light anti-aircraft gun crewman and anti-aircraft machine gun crewman with the Marine detachment on the battleship USS North Carolina in the Central Pacific area.
He participated in the Naval actions at New Georgia, Gilbert Islands, Nauru Island, Marshall Islands, Caroline Islands, Mariannas, Palau and Woleai Islands, New Guinea, Philippines, Formosa, French Indochina, China Coast, Iwo Jima, Okinawa and Ryukyu Island Group.
He was honorably discharged September 12th 1945, U.S. Marine Base, San Diego, Calif, He was among first 100 Marines separated on West Coast.
After the war, he returned home andd married Ruby Lillian [Anderson] and started a family.
Mr. Hanson died on February 24th 2006 at the age of 82. He is buried at Morningside Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.
