HEGLUND, Maurice Lousoane
Maurice Lousoane Heglund was born on October 30th 1915, the son of Edward Carl & Marie Agatha Heglund of Field Township (near Soudan), Minnesota.
Mr. Heglund was inducted into the U.S. Army on September 11th 1941 at Fort Snelling, Minneapolis. Home at entry: Cook, Minnesota.
He served as a machine operator with Company C of the 46th Engineer Construction Battalion in New Guinea, Papua; East Indies and Southern Philippines. He rose to the rank of Corporal (CPL).
CPL Heglund erned the following merits for his service:
- Presidential Unit Citation,
- American Defense Service Medal,
- Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal wirh 4 bronze battle stars & bronze arrowhead,
- World War II Victory Medal,
- Phillipine Liberation Medal with 2 bronze stars and 5 overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged July 5th 1945 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. After the war he returned home and married Sylvia Emily [Lundgren] and they started a family.
Mr Heglund died on April 15th 1986 at the age of 70 years. He is buried a Cook Cemetery in Cook, Minnesota.
