Matthew J. "Joe" Love was born in Chicago, Ill. on Feb. 2, 1918, to Charles J. and Helen Love. He served in the Navy during World War II on a destroyer.
After the war he served in the Naval Reserve and the Coast Guard Reserve. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer after 38 years of military service.
Joe was an employee of Duluth Water and Gas for 27 years.
He died on Dec. 28, 2002.
