Matt Bernard Russ was born on April 9th 1920 to Janez (Johann) "John" & Frances [Hran] Russ in Hibbing, Minnesota.
Mr. Russ enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve on September 10th 1942. He began active duty on March 14th 1943.
He was commissioned as an Ensign (ENS) on June 1st 1944 and served as a naval aviator and flight instructor.
ENS Russ was released from active duty on October 15th 1945. After the war he returned home and married Frances Rose [Znidarsich] and they started a family. He retired after 20 years in the Naval Reserves.
Mr. Russ died on September 9th 2000 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is entombed at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church Columbarium.
