Mr. Backman inducted into the Army July 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Chisholm, Minnesota.

He served as Technical Sergeant and driver-mechanic with the 3346th Quartermaster Truck Company in Luzon Island, Philippines.

Awarded the following: Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with one bronze star.

Honorably discharged December 19, 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
