Martin Edwin Lorntson served in World War II in the Pacific Theater. He served in the U.S. Navy beginning on May 14, 1945, and served in the Pacific Fleet.
He was assigned to the USS Report (AM-289), an Admiral-class minesweeper, and the USS Alstede (AF-48), an Alstede-class stores ship as a Seaman 2nd Class. He was discharged on August 18, 1946.
Mr. Lorntson was born in 1927 in Two Harbors, Minnesota, the son of Conrad and Fern Lorntson.

“The war was coming to a close when I enlisted in the U.S. Navy. It was already over in Europe. I was assigned to a ship (USS Report) that was being built at Mare Island shipyard. Our crew was training to operate this vessel upon completion for the invasion of Japan The end of the war in September 1945 ended all of this. From that point on, I was shuttled from base to base to my last assignment, USS Alstede (AF-48).”
