Margaret Lind (nee Pederson) was the first Virginia MN women to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps Women's Reserve.
Margaret and 700 other enlisted Marine women reported in March 1943 at the Naval Training School Bronx, New York for their initial recruit training course.
This group, the first to become members of the Women's Reserve, went through a strenuous six-week's program of drill, physical conditioning and military indoctrination under instructors detached from regular Marine training bases. Upon completion of this course, some of the recruits were assigned to duty immediately to release Marines for combat duty overseas.
Margaret Served in Washington DC doing office work. her rank was first sergeant.
She was discharged February 1, 1946.
