Lyle L. Kenyon of Duluth, Minnesota was inducted into the Army on August 12, 1943.
He was a Sergeant, cannoneer and gun NCO with Battery C, 907th Field Artillery Battalion, 79th Infantry Division in Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland, Central Europe. Near St. Mare Eglise following the Normandy invasion.
He recalls, "spent the first night sleeping in a field, dark when we pulled in. Woke up sleeping with dead cows, plus GIs and German soldiers."
Mr. Kenyon received the: Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with four bronze battle stars, World War II Victory Medal, and three overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on January 7, 1946 at Camp McCoy, Wis.
