Ludwig J. Sampson was inducted into the Army on October 15, 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.

He served as a Private with Battery B of the 383rd Field Artillery Battalion in the continental United States.

He was honorably discharged on request to accept employment in the defense industry on March 10, 1943, at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana.
