Lowell Laager served in World War II in both the European and Pacific Theaters in the Amphibious Force of the U.S. Navy from September 1942 until October 1945, participating in the invasion of Normandy.
He was assigned to Landing Craft Flotilla Q-1-4-43, Flotilla 4, in Normandy, Utah Beach, Tare Green Beach. His rank was Chief Storekeeper. Then he was sent to the Pacific.
Mr. Laager was born in 1922, Morris, Stevens County, Minnesota, the son of Walter and Lucy Laager.

Embarrassing situation: Our Navy acceptance physical was held in basement of the Federal Building in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Windows were on sidewalk level, so people walking by would stop and look into basement, where maybe 100 recruits were in the nude. Morale breaker.
