Louis Vesel was born in Chisholm, Minnesota on 6/15/1915 to John and Mary Vesel who were originally from Yugoslavia. At a young age Louis worked in the mines and employed by Oliver Iron Mining Co.
He registered for the draft on October 16, 1940 and was inducted into the Army on June 13, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Hibbing, Minnesota.
Mr. Vesel served as a Private First Class and truck driver with Company I of the 313th Infantry Regiment in the European Theater.
He was awarded the following: European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and six overseas service bars.
Mr. Vesel was honorably discharged on December 24, 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. Upon his return home from the war he married Grace R Heikkila and raised a family.
Louis Vesel died on 3/13/1993 at the age of 77 in Hibbing, Minnesota. He was buried in his hometown of Chisholm.
