Louis Chuk of Chisholm, Minnesota enlisted in the Army Air Corps on Dec. 10, 1942.
He was a technical sergeant with the 307th Fighter Squadron as a flight engineer and gunner (50-caliber machine gun) on B-24 Liberator bombers. He flew 40 combat missions over Central Europe, Italy and the Balkans.
He was captured on June 9, 1944, and was a prisoner of war in Germany until April 24, 1945.
He received the:
Purple Heart,
Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters,
Good Conduct Medal,
Air Crew Badge
European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with three bronze battle stars.
He was discharged on June 25, 1949.
