Loren E. Christofferson

Loren E. Christofferson of Hibbing, Minnesota was inducted into the Army in August 1942.
He was commissioned as a captain and served as a platoon leader and company commander in the China-Burma-India Theater with the 1877th Engineer Aviation Battalion. He went to India, via Africa, in 1943. His unit built the first B-29 base at Chakulia for bombing missions against Japan. He later flew to Mytkina, Burma, to build an airfield for the Air Corps to fly gasoline to China.
He received the:
Presidential Unit Citation,
Good Conduct Medal,
American Campaign Service Medal,
European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal,
Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Service Medal with two bronze battle stars and
World War II Victory Medal.
He was separated in January 1946, but was later recalled to active duty during the Korean War.
