Lester Joseph McAlpine was inducted into the Army on April 24, 1941, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Chisholm, Minnesota.
He served as a Private First Class and medical aid with the Medical Detachment of the 135th Infantry Regiment and 34th Infantry Division in Algeria, Fr. Morocco and Tunisia, North Africa; and Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and Po Valley, Italy. He was wounded in action on March 31, 1943, in the European Theater.
Mr. McAlpine was awarded the following: Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Medical Badge, American Defense Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with six bronze battle stars, World War II Victory Medal and six overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on June 13, 1945, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.
