LeRoy M. Grangruth

LeRoy M. Grangruth enlisted in the Naval Reserve June 13, 1942.

He served as a Shipfitter 1st Class, underwater welder, and amphibious repairman in Europe and continental United States stations. While he was stationed in England in March 1944, he prepared ships for the D.-Day invasion.

He was later transferred for the winter to Liege, Belgium, called "Buzz Bomb Alley." He prepared amphibious craft for the Rhine crossing in March 1945. He left Europe ten days before VE day and left England for the U.S. on VE day. He was assigned to the Pacific Theater when the war ended.

Mr. Grangruth was awarded a Letter of Commendation to Task Unit 122 for the Rhine crossing  and an European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze battle star.

He was honorably discharged October 6, 1945, at Shoemaker, Calif.
