LeRoy M. Grand enlisted in the Naval Reserve on June 13, 1942.
He was a Shipfitter 1st Class and underwater welder, amphibious repair, in Europe and continental U.S. stations. In England, March, 1944, he prepared ships for D-Day invasion; later to Liege, Belgium for winter in "Buzz Bomb Alley." He prepared amphibious craft for the Rhine crossing on March, 1945. He left Europe 10 days before VE day; left England for U.S. on VE day. He was assigned to the Pacific Theater when war ended.
He was awarded a Letter of Commendation,
Task Unit 122, for Rhine crossing,
European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with one bronze battle star.
He was discharged Oct. 6, 1945.
