Leonard A. Peterson enlisted in the Navy on July 26, 1939.
He was a Chief Electrician's Mate and served at the submarine base in New London, Conn., and in the submarine service in the Pacific aboard the USS Cahokia (a Navy tug) and the submarines USS R-7, USS Rasher (SS 269 ) and Submarine Division 162. The Rasher sank more than 100,000 tons of Japanese shipping.
Mr.Peterson received the: Bronze Star, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
He was discharged on Oct. 14, 1945.
