Leno J. Pettinari was inducted into the Army on June 13, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Buhl, Minnesota.
He served as a Corporal and rifleman with Company I of the 47th Infantry Regiment of the Ninth Infantry Division in Algeria-Fr.Morocco and Tunisia, North Africa; Sicily and Normandy. He was twice wounded in action, in Tunisia on March 31, 1943, and in France on June 20, 1944.
Mr. Pettinari was awarded the following: Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart with Oak Lead Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four bronze battle stars, World War II Victory Medal.
He received a disability discharge on June 29, 1947, at the Percy Jones Army General Hospital Center in Fort Custer, Michigan.
