TAYLOR, Kenneth Remington
Kenneth Remington Taylor was born in Duluth, Minnesota, on March 18th 1917, the son of Remington Raycraft & Ethel Josephine [Nelson] Taylor.
Mr. Taylor served in the U.S. Army during World War II from August 1942 until December 12th 1945. Before he went off to war he married LaRayne Marie [Hollingsworth] Taylor on July 17th 1941 and they started a family.
He was assigned to the 776th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion in Patton’s Army (the Third Army) and participated in the Battle of the Bulge (December 16th 1944 - January 25th 1945). He landed on the beaches of Normandy in the second wave. He was a sergeant who manned an anti-aircraft gun.
SGT Taylor was sent to Paris to study the markings on airplanes (as the Americans were shooting down our own in the early days). He has many stories and always is willing to share when asked. His rank was Technical Sergeant.
SGT Taylor was awarded the following:
- American Theater Service Ribbon,
- Belgian Fourragére, -and-
- the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon.
He has a star at the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center, Superior, Wisconsin. He died in January 19th 2013 at the age of 95 and is buried at Cavalry Cemetery in Superior, Wisconsin.
