Joseph William Stejskal

Joseph William Stejskall served in World War II in the Pacific Theater. He served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Stejskal joined the Navy on August 6, 1943. He served in several ACORN (Aviation, Construction, Ordnance, Repair, Navy) units, which island hopped, securing islands before the Construction Brigades (SeaBees) arrived.

He served in ACORN 18 Navy 60, ACORN 10 Navy 60, ACORN 10 Navy 3202, ACORN 25, Headquarters Squadron (HEDRON), Fleet Air Wing (FAW) 10, and ComAir Center Navy 3205.

He was discharged on April 4, 1946.

Mr. Stejskal’s rank was Motor Machinist (MOMM) 3rd Class.

He was decorated with the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.

Mr. Stejskal was born in Duluth, Minnesota, the son of Joseph and Katherine Stejskal.

“Enlisted at age 17, so his mother had to sign for him. Served in the South Pacific, from New Hebrides, Solomon Islands. Was a motor machinist in the engine room on the crash boats. “ACORN units (island hopping) securing islands before SeaBees came in. “Never been sorry he did it!”
