Mr. Began inducted into the Army on May 29, 1943, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Eveleth, Minnesota.
He served as a Private First Class and light machine gunner with Company A of the 504th Parachute Infantry in Rome-Arno, Southern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.
He received the following: Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Arrowhead, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and three overseas service bars.
Mr. Began was honorably discharged on December 3, 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
