Joseph R. Kosmerl entered the Army September 8, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Lestonia, Minnesota.
He served as a Technician 5th Grade, repairman, and gunner with 736th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion in Northern Solomon Islands, New Guinea, and Philippine Islands. Overseas forty-two months and made seventeen beachheads. Adopted a monkey as a pet but unable to bring it home.
He was awarded the: American Theater Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with bronze arrowhead, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and five overseas service bars.
Mr. Kosmerl was honorably discharged on January 9, 1946, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
