STORNICK, Joseph Patrick
Joseph Patrick Stornick was born on March 4th 1919 to Rudolph & Louisa [Vesel] Stornick in Chisholm, Minnesota on October 28th 1940. Before heading off to war, he married Cecelia Mary [Lastovich] on October 13th 1940.
Mr. Stornick enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps August 17th 1942, at Fort Snelling, in Minneapolis, Minnesota during WWII. Home at entry: Hibbing, Minnesota.
He served as a glider inspector with the 7th Troop Carrier Squadron of the 62nd Troop Carrier Group in Egypt-Libya and Tunisia, North Africa; Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and Po Valley, Italy, Italy; Air Combat Balkans, and Southern France. He rose to the rank of Technical Sergeant (TSGT).
SGT Storncik earned the following merits for his service:
- Presidential Unit Citation,
- Good Conduct Medal,
- European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 9 bronze battle stars,
- World War II Victory Medal, -and-
- five overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged September 23rd 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he returned home to Cecelia and they started a family.
Mr. Stornick died on June 7th 1995 at 76 years of age. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Chisholm.
