OZANICH, Joseph Michael

Joseph Michael Ozanich was born on February 5th 1925 to Anton & Anne Ozanich in Buhl, Minnesota.

Mr. Ozanich was inducted into the U.S. Army on June 29th 1943 during WWII.

He was a directed tank operations and assigned duties to crew members in Cannon Company, 341st Infantry Regiment, 86th Infantry Division, serving in Central Europe and the Pacific Theater. He rose to the rank of Sergeant (SGT).

SGT Ozanich earned the following merits for his service:

  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • Combat Infantryman Badge,
  • European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with a bronze battle star,
  • Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Service Medal,
  • American Campaign Service Medal,
  • World War II Victory Medal,  -and-
  • one overseas service bar.

 

He was honorably discharged on March 23rd 1946. After the war he returned home and married Dorothy Regina May in 1949 and they started a family.

Mr. Ozanich died on January 26th 1989 at 63 years of age in Chisholm, Minnesota. He is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing, Minnesota.
