Joseph P. Matkovich of Virginia was inducted into the Army on May 30, 1942.
He was a Private First Class and a fire control operator with Battery A, 894th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion in Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arno in Italy and in the Rhineland, southern France and Central Europe.
Mr. Matkovich received the: European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with a silver battle star (for five campaigns), World War II Victory Medal and four overseas service bars.
He was discharged on Oct. 28, 1945at Camp McCoy, Wis.
