Joseph M. Kocyon of Aurora, Minnesota was inducted into Army on September 19, 1941 at Fort Snelling, Minn.
He was a Staff Sergeant with Company C, 163rd Infantry Regiment, 41st Infantry Division in New Guinea, Papua, and the Southern Philippines (Liberation). He was wounded in action on March 13, 1945.
Mr. Kocyon was awarded the: Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Distinguished Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze battle stars, American Defense Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with one bronze star, and five overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on August 23, 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wis.
