Mr. Belay enlisted in the Army Air Corps on November 29, 1939, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Virginia, Minnesota.
He served as an airplane propeller mechanic with the 77th Fighter Squadron of the 20th Fighter Group in Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and Ardennes.
He received the following: Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, American Defense Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and four overseas service bars.
Mr. Belay was honorably discharged on Sepember 29, 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
