Joseph E. Flake was inducted into the Army on March 12, 1941 at Fort Snelling, Minn.
He served as a Technician 5th Grade and welder with Service Battery of the 49th Field Artillery Battalion in Guam, Ryukyu Islands, Central Pacific, Southern Philippines, Aleutian Islands and Eastern U.S. Mandates.
Mr. Flake was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, World War II Victory Medal and four overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on Aug.9, 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wis.
