BERTNICK, Joseph
Joseph Bertnick was born on December 25th 1923 to Michael & Anna [Rynes] Bertnick in Chisholm, Minnesota.
Mr. Bertnick inducted into the U.S.Army on May 27th 1943, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Chisholm, Minnesota.
He served with the Corps of Engineers and construction machine operator with the 593rd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment in New Guinea and Luzon Islands, Philippines. He rose to the rank of Technician Fifth Grade. (TEC5)
TEC Bertnick earned the following merits for his service:
- Good Conduct Medal,
- Bronze Arrowhead,
- Philippine Liberation Medal,
- Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, -and-
- four overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on December 30th 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he returned home and married Delores Elaine [Winkleblack] and they started a family.
Mr. Bertnick died on April 21st 1976 at 52 years of age in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Chisholm.
