GREGORICH, John Nickolas
John Nickolas Gregorich was born on February 22nd 1919 to Nicholas & Matilda M [Razich] Gregorich in Kingston, West Virginia.
Mr. Gregorich was inducted into the U.S. Army May 14th 1941, Fort Snelling, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Home at entry: Chisholm, Minnesota.
He served with Headquarters Company of the 410th Infantry Regiment in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He rose to the rank of as a Private First Class (PFC).
PFC Gregorich earned the following merits for his military service:
- Bronze Star Medal,
- Good Conduct Medal,
- Combat Infantryman Badge,
- American Defense Service Medal,
- European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 silver battle star (for five bronze stars),
- World War II Victory Medal, -and-
- two overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged September 30th 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he returned home and married Katherine A [Tappero] and they started a family.
Mr. Gregorich died on December 15th 1960 at 41 years of age. He is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing, Minnesota.
