John Joseph Hecimovich entered the Regular Army February 11, 1941.
He served as a Sergeant First Class with Company E of the 31st Infantry Regiment in the Philippines Campaign, Pacific Theater. He was wounded in action in the Pacific theater.
Mr. Hecimovich was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation with oak leaf cluster, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, American Defense Service Medal with bronze service star, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one bronze battle star, and bronze arrowhead, World War II Victory Medal and Philippine Liberation Medal with one bronze star
He also served in the Army during the Korean War and was awarded an oak leaf cluster to his Purple Heart for a second combat wound he received in Korea.
He was honorably discharged (retired) with a permanent disability (loss of leg) on May 31, 1952, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C.
