John Hyvarinen of Nashwauk, Minnesota was commissioned Lieutenant in the Naval Reserve on March 13, 1943.
He served in the continental United States as an Assistant to Subsection Chief with the Mines Underwater Section of the Fleet Maintenance Division and Bureau of Ordnance with the Navy Dept. in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Hyvarinen was awarded a Special Commendation from Chief, Bureau of Naval Ordnance, the American Campaign Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
He was released from active duty March 1, 1946.
