John Hugh Riley

Mr. Riley served in World War II. He entered the Naval Reserve on June 27, 1944.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. He was a Seaman 1st Class aboard the troop transport U.S.S. Hyde (APA 173). He participated in the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After the war ended, Mr. Riley was transferred to the U.S.S. Andromeda (AKA 15) for duty at Tientsen, China.
He was discharged on June 6, 1946.
Mr. Riley was born in Hibbing, Minnesota, on February 24, 1926, the son of Elizabeth and Hugh Riley. He was a member of the last graduating class of McGolrick School.
Mr. Riley died at age 81 in Hibbing, Minnesota, on December 6, 2007.
