John H. Miller enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 6, 1939.
He was a Master Sergeant and an aircraft observer in aircraft maintenance. He was also a flight officer and a flight engineer (controlling operations of aircraft) with the 11th Air Force and 20th Air Force in Alaska, Aleutian Islands, Guam and Mariannas in the Pacific Theater. He participated in 23 bombing missions in the Aleutians and 29 bombing missions over Japan.
Mr. Miller received the: Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Service Medal with three bronze battle stars, American Defense Service Medal with one bronze star, World War II Victory Medal and five overseas service bars.
He was discharged on November 16, 1945
