BICANICH, John Gregory

John Gregory Bicanich was born on July 30th 1922 to Louis & Mary (nee Lisec) Bicanich in Chisholm, Minnesota in St. Louis County.

Mr. Bicanich inducted into the Army April 26th 1943, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.

He served as a Technician Fifth Grade with 755th Railway Shop Battalion in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.

Mr. Bicanich was awarded the following:

  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four bronze battle stars,
  • World War II Victory Medal, -and-
  • four overseas service bars.

 

He was honorably discharged January 8th 1946 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he married Anne Marie Sertich on November 27th 1948 and started a family.

Mr. Bicanich died on October 12th 1995. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in his hometown of Chisholm, Minnesota. His family donotated some of his war memorabilia to the St. Louis County Historical Society in 2020.
