John Corradi
Era: World War II
Military Branch: Army
John Corradi entered the Army February 23, 1942. Home at entry: Chisholm, Minnesota.
He served as a Sergeant, infantryman, and driver with the 90th Infantry Diviision. Landed on Utah Beach, Normandy on June 8, 1944, (D-plus-Two).
"Was wounded June 14 by Shrapnel from German 88 m.m. artillery. Sent to field hospital for treatment and awarded the Purple Heart. Later he was sent to general hospitals in Paris, France.
A number of months later I was put on a train and shipped back to my unit in the middle of winter. I could not identify any member of our original company. After several days of slogging through deep snow, my injury did not permit me to go on.
I was sent to a hospital in Belgium for further rehab. From there, I was assigned to the Air Force. My duties there were as a chauffeur for the CO of the 409th Bomb Group stationed in the middle of France somewhere.
After VE Day was announced, I was discharged in August 1945, from Goldsboro, North Carolina."
