Mr. Bichanich inducted into the Army July 31, 1943.
He served as an infantry scout and communications sergeant with Company K of the First Infantry in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He had 306 days in combat in New Guinea and was wounded in action in Luzon, Philippines, on August 11, 1945.
He was awarded the following: Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, three overseas service bars, Bronze Arrowhead, and Philippines Liberation Medal with one bronze star.
Mr. Bichanich was honorably discharged December 29, 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
