He entered as an aviation cadet. He served as a Commissioned Flight Officer and navigator with the 62nd Bombardment Squadron of the 39th Bombardment Group in the Air Offensive Japan and Ryukyu Islands.
He received the following: Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars, and World War II Victory Medal.
He was relieved from active duty on February 5, 1946, at Santa Ana AFB, California.
