Jervis V. V. Heimbach entered the Army Air Corps December 5, 1943. Home at entry: Duluth, Minnesota.
He was a commissioned Captain and served as a P-51 Mustang fighter pilot,”….in Italy July 1944-April 1945, on 53 long-range missions as a flight leader over Germany, Austria, etc.
“I escorted bombers and did some strafing of targets. I claimed two victories in the air, an FW 190 (German fighter) and an HE111 (German bomber) and several ground targets such as locomotives and airplanes.”
Mr. Heimbach was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with five oak leaf clusters, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars (Rome-Arno, Italy and Southern France), World War II Victory Meda.
He was honorably discharged June 26, 1945 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.
