MERRILL, James Paxton

James Paxton Merrill was born on Apri 11th 1926 to Charles Z. & Gladys M. [Nelson] Merrill in Hibbing, Minnesota.

Mr. Merrill of Hibbing was enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on August 16th 1944 during WWII.

He was an aircraft remote control turret gunner with the 44th Army Air Forces Base Unit. He rose to the rank of a Corporal (CPL).

CPL Merrill earned the following merits for his service:

  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • American Campaign Service Medal.  -and-
  • World War II Victory Medal.

 

He was honorably discharged on June 24th 1946. After the war he returned hone and married Katherine Ann [Bann] in 1949.

He died on July 3rd 1990 in Hibbing and was buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
