James B. Smith

James B. Smith entered the Army on November 10, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Virginia, Minnesota.

He served as a Sergeant and heavy equipment mechanic with Headquarters Third Engineer Combat Battalion of the 24th Infantry Division in New Guinea, Philippines (Defense), and Southern Philippines (Liberation).

He received the following: Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze battle stars, World War II Victory Medal, five overseas service bars, and Philippine Liberation Medal with two bronze stars.

Mr.Smith was honorably discharged on November 14, 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
