Jack J. Kraus served in World War II with the U.S. Coast Guard beginning on May 26, 1943.
Mr. Kraus had basic training in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, New York. He was sent to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to train in long range navigation (LORAN). He was assigned to base in Bonavista, Newfoundland, for more than a year. He was then transferred to Groton, Massachusetts, where he was a LORAN instructor.
He was discharged on March 26, 1946, in Detroit. His rank was Radarman 1st Class.
Mr. Kraus was born in Farmington, Minnesota, in 1924, the son of John and Sophia Kraus. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1942.
