Jack B. Maki was inducted into the Naval Reserve on September 17, 1943. Home at entry: Buhl, Minnesota.
He served as an Electrician's Mate 2nd Class aboard the USS Dauphin (APA97) in the Pacific and at continental U.S. shore stations.
Mr. Maki shared the following: "Participated in the assault on Okinawa. Then a pull-out-all-stops trip to San Francisco for replacement troops and provisions, part of which consisted of 600 tons of cigarettes destined for Manila. Involved in the transportation of personnel and material from Dutch New Guinea to the Philippines in preparation for the invasion of Japan home islands.
"Disembarked occupation troops at Yokohama on September 2, 1945. Remainder of my tenure was devoted to Magic Carpet duty returning combat veterans to the States, then back to the Western Pacific with mail and provisions for the occupation troops. Final return trip to the Atlantic via Panama Canal for decommissioning of our ship at Newport News, Virginia."
Mr. Maki was awarded the: American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one bronze battle star, World War II Victory Medal and Philippines Liberation Medal.
He was honorably discharged on May 16, 1946, at Great Lakes, Illinois.
