Howard Makela of Iron, Minn. was inducted into the Army on Oct. 15, 1942.
He was a Private First Class and railway signal operator with the 726th Railway Operating Battalion in the Pacific.
Mr. Makela was awarded the: Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
He was honorably discharged on Jan. 22, 1946 at Camp McCoy, Wis.
