Henry M. Ekroos of Duluth, Minn. was inducted into the Army on Nov. 3, 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minn.
He served as a Technician 5th Grade and cannoneer with Battery C of the 490th Armored Field Artillery Battalion in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.
He drove a tank and served with 105mm howitzer gun crew using fixed and semi-fixed ammunition. They assisted in moving, emplacing, firing, displacing and withdrawing field pieces in combat situations.
Mr. Ekroos was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and two overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on Jan. 12, 1946 at Camp McCoy, Wis.
